Janusz Korczak, the pen name of Henryk Goldszmit, was a Polish-Jewish educator, children’s author, and paediatrician. His best known works being King Matt the First (Król Maciuś Pierwszy), its sequel King Matt on the Desert Island (Krol Macius na wyspie bezludnej), and Kaytek the Wizard (Kajtus Czarodziej). He is believed to have perished at Treblinka extermination camp in 1942.
