Fasolka po Bretonsku

Polish fasolka

Here is a recipe for one of our favourite Saturday lunchtime dishes – Fasolka po bretońsku (or Breton beans).


100 grams of white beans
2 good sausages, sliced
3 slices of bacon, diced
1 onion, diced
1 tin of tomato paste
2 teaspoons marjoram
1 teaspoon ground paprika
Salt and pepper, to taste


Rinse beans thoroughly and soak for 10 hours.
Add to a pan and boil until tender.
Fry the chopped onion, bacon, and sausages, until browned.
Add beans to bacon, onions, and sausage in one large pot.
Add tomato paste, paprika, marjoram, salt and pepper.
Bring to the boil and simmer together for about ten minutes, taking care to stir regularly.

Serve with bread.

To speed up this recipe, instead of using dried beans, use canned beans. Butter beans, for example.
