Polish Wine

Zielona Gora is probably the only location in Poland where quality wine is produced.

Indeed Zielona Gora is one of only two places in Poland cultivating grapes for mainly white wines. The other winery near the town of Warka in Masovia. It is one of the most northern wine growing regions in Europe.

Wine has been made by the monks of Paradyz (Paradise) Abbey since at least 1250. The first wineries around Zielona Gora were believed to have been established in 1314.

The annual Wine Festival has taken place in the town since 1852. It takes place over the first or second week of September and lasts for nine days.

Related fact: Vodka Luksusowa (Luxury vodka) is also produced in distillery in Zielona Góra. This is made from potatoes rather than the more usual grain.
